In this issue: We’re Shining

March 31, 2005, Vol. III Issue 7

Dear Friends,

I am coming up for air to write this e-newsletter. BREATHE. I know a lot of our speakers talk about that. It’s a really good idea. Re-creating our website has required huge amounts of time and concentration to test, tweak, edit, perfect. Oh, did I say the “P” word? Didn’t mean to. Perfection is not an option as we’ll definitely be asking you to help us find our snafus and to tell us what improvements we can make.

This marks a whole new era in website consciousness for me and it’s in response to how I observe you, as meeting planners, doing business. We will be up and running by the next issue at the new url.

I haven’t ever written about how things work here. That’s one of the things that evolved in the website re-vamp. I always thought it was about the speakers, but my cheerleaders have convinced me it’s time to shine my light, too. I’m sure most of you are familiar with the quote by Marianne Williamson about letting your light shine (It is often attributed to Nelson Mandela because he used it in a famous speech). In fact, one of our speakers, Laura Derocher, wrote a song called, “I’m Shining” based on Marianne’s inspiring words. When I hear it, it always gives me tingles.

So, on our new website, you can learn more about how our business and relationships with our speakers and clients have evolved. It’s also very much about you. We have pages devoted to WHO WE WORK WITH and SUCCESS STORIES.

This is a good time to shine, as we evolve into this next incarnation called, The Speak Well Being Group.

Yours truly,
Barbara

The UP side, and the down SIDE

The phone doesn’t ring anymore. Email rules. I totally respect and respond to the fact that email is the communication tool that works for busy people like you and that you’re using the web to find speakers and communicate. I love it when I can write back to you with some basic information, connect you with a speaker’s website, fees, whatever you need. I also love it when we can talk in the good old-fashioned way on the phone to discuss your event. The more we can learn about your objectives, etc, the more we can help you achieve your goals.

I am also very much aware that we all have access to this world wide web wonderland, so I’ve endeavored to make our website especially useful to you. I think you’re going to like our Search Features. You can search three ways: By TOPIC, by SPEAKER NAME and by EVENT TYPE. Now, that last category is the one I’m really jazzed about. We specialize in speakers for certain types of events. I haven’t seen that anywhere else, yet I’ve felt intuitively it would be helpful to you. So, you’ll be able on our HOME PAGE, to use our pull-down menu and look up event types like, Ladies Night Out or Nurses Appreciation and find all the speakers who have appropriate expertise, talents and topics for your choice of events.

Now, the down side of this is that a speaker’s topic or specialty in an event type is not an exact science. Our speakers are many-faceted, and, in the interest of brevity, our descriptions of their qualifications, expertise and topics are general. So, PLEASE, when you need clarification or have questions, call us at 503-699-5031 or
email:barbara@speakwellbeing.com to explore your ideas, time, place, budget.

Jana Stanfield featured by the HUMOR Project

Need a laugh? I bet the HUMOR Project would be the place to be. Jana Stanfield says being a speaker at a speaker convention is like being a light bulb at a spotlight convention. Can you imagine what it’s like to get into an elevator at a humor conference?

Jana will be featured at the 20th Annual International Conference sponsored by The HUMOR Project, Inc. With the theme, “The Positive Power of Humor, Hope & Healing,” it will be held in Saratoga Springs, New York, from April 8-10. It is the largest conference of its kind in the world. Jana will be joined as a conference presenter by renowned comedian Yakov Smirnoff and by Oscar-nominated actress Teri Garr. For more information about this conference or to receive a free copy of the 32-page 2005 Humor Sourcebook to help you get more smileage out of your life and work, contact The HUMOR Project at 518.587.8770 or visit http://www.HumorProject.com.
